Ok well i am an African American Muslim.(Im 14)

Ive been muslim for about 7 years now.
Well two years ago i developed a love for Psychology. Well i just read a book on stress management. In one chapter it talked about Meditation. At first i was intreaged and willing to try it but then it talked about how people would meet their "spirit guides".

I just would like to know is this a sin in Christananity or islam if so why?

Of course this would be a sin. In Islam any sprituality you need you take it from the proper Islamic Sources. We don't speak to any spritual guides or the like. This is definitely NOT from the Religion of Al Islam.

I see that you are 14, maybe you might want to take these kinds of matters to your parents and they in turn can sit down with the Imam and discuss these types of things with you.

If you are interested in removing stress try reading the Noble Quran and some authentic hadith make that a daily practice. Insha Allah this will provide you with relief from any stress that you may incur.

Insha Allah this helps you.

I think Muslims and Christians would generally have a problem with contacting spirit guides.

Substitute the words "spirit guide" with "guardian angel" if you like.

Either way, they are entirely a manifestation of your subconscious. Whether or not they're "sinful" depends on you.

    Spirit Guides are demons.

Muslims would call them Ginns (sp).

I believe calling spirit guides would be against many denominations of Christianity as well as Islam.

You don't need to contact spirit guides to meditate, though.

Interesting. I didn't know managing your stress was a sin.

I believe your spirit is more important than off of those religions put together. Your "spirit guide" is just a term used to describe your soul, which is who you are, that's more important than anything else. Think about it, why would you let a religion tell you what to do with your soul, when it is yours?

I am a Christian, and we are to have The Holy Spirit, who is God himself, as our only spirit guide. So Christians are not to be calling on any other spirits but the Lord himself.

I don't know about Islam. In Christianity meditation isn't a sin. In fact, in Catholic christianity, some people say a 'rosary' as a form of meditation. It is a string of prayer beads, coming from far eastern tradition.

Through history in Christianity people have spoken of spirit guides, they just called them "saints" or "angels".

Psychology can't save either way, and it can be dangerous. Islam cannot save either.

Jesus loves you, so please hear this. :) The truth is that the only way to be saved and go to heaven and not the eternal lake of fire is by believing in this life that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose again. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die :)

Hmm… I'd actually call it a "sin" in psychology. Throw out the BS textbook. First off, the Psychology I know strives to be scientific. How do you measure "spirit guides?" Secondly, some psychologists would interpret someone insisting they see or sense "spirit guides" as schizophrenic. Thirdly, "spirit guides" are not a necessary or difinitive component of meditation.

I could go on and on, but I'm steamed as it is, so I'll switch to the positives:

Meditation has rich traditions in Christianity and Islam, but it largely stems from East Asian traditions such as Buddhism and Taoism.

In many ways, meditation may be used as a more intense form of prayer. Compare the mental focus and practices.

So the answer is that meditation itself is not a sin, but the person that inserted their own half-baked spiritual beliefs into the description is junk! Find a better text on meditation!

Oh yes, I met my brother soul or spiritual guide but it was a very deep state of meditation and I also had to perform a ritual to summon the spirits.

But anyway there are many kinds of meditation if you just relax your mind you will have better guidance of the God of your faith.

With the proper research and guidance of the scripture one can come to know Jesus in the parting of their sins. Then comes a relationship with God and communication on a personal level. God will explain infinite truths in a way the finite mind could understand. This level of communication is only found in a relationship with the creator of all things and not in seeking religion. Religion is man's feeble attempt to reach God and in religion there are demon spirits that possess men that are in leadership. Therefore, the followers are following doctrines of demons and men. The only spirit that give a full line of communication from God to believer(God's children) is God's own " HOLY SPIRIT." Yes it is a sin to contact any spirit except the God Holy Spirit and truth,.
